Is myspace Serious?

I may regret saying this but: what the fuck, myspace? I tried to log in to it today for the second time and it was down. You either hate me, your users, or some mixture of both. “Login is temporarily disabled while we fix some database problems. We’ll be back shortly. 2/2/2006” So many questions flow through my mind at this point. What happens to the people already logged in? Why can I see every other part of the site except the one page that says ‘processing login’? What can really be wrong with the database that this one function has to be disabled? Why is this site so damn ugly? So on and so forth… why don’t people demand better service from one of the largest websites in the world? Teenagers are the last people I’d expect to be so complacent…

About Devin Reams

My name is Devin Reams and I founded this site to provide a useful news and review resource for Colorado skiers and snowboarders (and mountain enthusiasts). I've been skiing since I was a little kid (we moved out here when I was five years old) and I plan to ski for years beyond that. Although cosnow is not my full-time job it is my full-time winter hobby. I've been an "Epic Local" passholder since 2006 (when it was called a "Colorado Pass" or "Five Mountain Pass"). My favorite resorts are Beaver Creek and Breckenridge.

It’s happened several times today. I was logged in and got a message when I tried to access my sent mail saying “This user’s profile has been temporarily disabled for special maintenance.
The profile will be available again shortly.
Sorry for the inconvenience. 2/9/2006” When I logged out and tried to log back in, I got the standard “fixing database” crap.

I am very skeptical, though I’m not sure of what. This does not make sense to me.

    “whiny”? you guys are idiots.

Devin’s right to be concerned. Myspace is so huge and unwieldy that I suspect it’s tacked together with spit and bubblegum. It never was well-designed, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it went down for days at a time. Which means people will go elsewhere and Myspace as we know it will die.

I’m a bit late on this conversation but feel like putting in my buck-o’five.

    1) MySpace is free website and is always undergoing change and maintenance, sometimes you get lucky and your account is on the part of the database they are working on at the moment. Currently my account is unavailable. I’ll check back later tonight when I get a chance to see if my account is available, not a big deal.

    2) My space is good for some people and not for others, if you want a relatively editable visual arena to express yourself then MySpace is decent, if you want one that is more blog oriented it’s not so ideal. IMHO MySpace is very clunky and not what I need, however I have friends and family on it and not other sites I am more active on, since they are happy with MySpace I created a MySpace account as another means of keeping in touch with them.

    3) If you want something that is going to guarantee uptime then you will have to cough up some cash and even then you can not be guaranteed 100% uptime, ease or specific population.
