Office 2007 Beta Review

Office 2007 Todo

Three words: it doesn’t print.

At least… not correctly. it’s like Word zooms in 300% to the center of the page… and prints that. Honestly, how do you fuck up printing? The print preview looks great. Then you hit print and go back to preview and it shows you what just came out of your printer: a waste of paper. Work Around: Send it to PDF! Update: Same document printed at work just fine. Hmmmm…

Outlook is looking pretty sweet though. Only about half the new features work, though. It’s fun to think about importing my Google Calendar into it. Heck, the mobile notifications would be nice too. Wait.. doesn’t Google already have that? Maybe I should just stick to Google? Nope, not until it has a slick To-Do list like Outlook 2007 does.

In short: ehhhhhhhh, this is Beta 2?

About Devin Reams

My name is Devin Reams and I founded this site to provide a useful news and review resource for Colorado skiers and snowboarders (and mountain enthusiasts). I've been skiing since I was a little kid (we moved out here when I was five years old) and I plan to ski for years beyond that. Although cosnow is not my full-time job it is my full-time winter hobby. I've been an "Epic Local" passholder since 2006 (when it was called a "Colorado Pass" or "Five Mountain Pass"). My favorite resorts are Beaver Creek and Breckenridge.

Hi Melissa, I appreciate you stopping by. First, the Outlook To-Do is great. Like I said, the features that don’t work (mobile integration, Internet Calendars) will be great when they work.

Access is very pretty but the ribbon is still a little counter-intuitive. I like being able to create my Custom grouping.

I’ve noticed the applications crash with Ultra Mon installed. It installs buttons at the top of the titlebar for moving windows between monitors. Whenever I close the program it crashes.

I’m extremely grateful of the reverse compatability. I want to test this out as much as possible without screwing up co-workers/friends when sending things.

Will Outlook ever take on the ribbon? It’s obviously not following the exact same layout as the rest of the suite.

Anyway, a dozen or so reports have been sent off already. I’m not signed up as a tester through Connect, is there any way I can still submit bug reports?

I’ve been using an older version of the beta for some time, and I’ve actually never had any problems with bugs or anything. Unfortunately, I think the new layout looks pretty ugly.

Everything is much more difficult to find now. I guess they could call it intuitive, but I just call it confusing.

Thanks for the point, Pharod. I had actually found the smile/frown tool a few days ago; just neglected to mention it. I’ve been sending screenshots like crazy. ;-)

Thanks for taking the time to comment…
