Another day of coincidences: DDR will be introduced to schools to fight obesity. Any opposition should watch Bryan and notice how un-obese he is. Hah for that matter they could look at skinny ol’ me playing DDR. ;-)
Biphasic Sleep Update
I’ve survived week one of my biphasic sleep schedule. Before I started my new routine I would get probably 8 or 9 hours of sleep per night. Last night I settled with 4.5. Here’s how the last 7 days looked:
Day | Nap | Sleep | Total |
1 | 8:30-12 | 2-6 | 7.5 hours |
2 | 6:30-8 | 2-8 | 7.5 hours |
3 | 7:30-10 | 2-6 | 6.5 hours |
4 | 8:30-4 | * | 7.5 hours |
5 | 7-8:30 | 2-6:30 | 6.0 hours |
6 | 8:30-10 | 2-6 | 5.5 hours |
7 | 1-5:30 | * | 4.5 hours |
As you can see I started to get less sleep… then day 4 hit me. I got back from skiing that day and went to take my nap… and didn’t wake up until 4am. That was fine, I woke up and proceeded to begin my day. I guess I was pretty exhausted, though.
Yesterday (day 7) I was very busy. Up at 6, class at 8 then work until 3:30, group project, meeting, dinner, meeting and I was finally home by 9. The problem was I had not started any homework and it needed to be done. So, I worked through my nap time and just decided to do the one block of sleep. That went pretty well. I woke up this morning but was a little drowsy. I lied down and watched MTV until about 6:30.
…and here I am working through my nap again. Oddly enough with 4.5 hours of sleep and no nap yet I’m feeling great. A little more irritable (thanks computer!) but not tired at all. I intend to repeat last night’s schedule and then go back to naps tomorrow afternoon.
I really recommend trying this sleep schedule. Waking up is easier. My dreams are more memorable, vivid and lucid (I feel like I control them, it’s weird). Working during the peace of night is great, too. I caught up on 12 magazines, I’ve started a new web project (looking forward to sharing that soon) and watched some good movies. Life is good!
Computers Crash
Why the hell is it that computers will crash and eff up if and only if you’re in the middle of a pretty important task? Honestly. I was having website issues the other day and then this evening Windows crashed hard (and by hard I mean it rebooted saying it had to do registry recovery, none of my cookies are saved, etc.). This is such a waste of my time. All those days I sit around poking people on Facebook though, nothing! Not even a frozen browser… thanks Murphy.
Alaska Airlines Sucks
Between this conversation and this behavior I don’t think I’ll ever (start) flying Alaska Airlines anytime soon.
Review: Waiting
If you’re in high school or college, you’ve got to see this movie. Odds are you are, or know someone who is in the restaurant business. From what I’ve been told this movie exposes many of the finer details to handling other people’s food.
Oh, wait, it’s not just some dumb movie about some disgruntled waiters. There are ‘guy’ jokes left and right. Personally, I’m surprised with what they can get away with these days. In addition, the main character’s struggle is with deciding on whether or not sleeping with the 17-year old hostess is moral (not to mention legal) or not. Classy, to say the least. That’s okay though, Ryan Renolds is the coolest actor around (Van Wilder, anyone?).
Being a male, aged 16-25, I found many parts of this movie to be extremely humerous. It’s not something I’d have a girl come watch with me, that’s for sure. Though, that doesn’t mean many wouldn’t enjoy it.
In any case, the inside look at what it’s really like to ‘wait’ tables is very funny. I’d recommed it to any guys who share similar humor tastes (Family Guy, Simpsons, Van Wilder). I’d have to give ‘Waiting’ a 5/10; it’s disgusting, immature, but pretty darned entertaining…
Gum = Dangerous?
It appears as if Melody is onto something: aspartame is dangerous… and it’s in every pack of gum in my house! I, honest to goodness, wondered why sometimes I felt weird when I chewed a lot of gum (Orbit is my weapon of choice) in a day. I don’t think I can quit all together but I’ll certainly ween myself off it (I chew half pieces anyway).
Bad Flight Experience
The other day I talked about my bad flight experience, but I think as far as ‘storyworthiness’ is concerned, Heather’s wins by a mile. Not that it’s a good thing… but it certainly is an interesting coincidence. But seriously… how weird is that story?!
PIP Resolution: Working Out
If you can’t tell I love to be organized and lay everything out. I can be very spur of the moment (let me tell you about the time we went skiing at midnight until 2am, slept in my car, then drove to Vail the next morning…) but in general I like to know what the plan is.
I’ve been looking at my schedule (I put it into Excel, colors and all, very fun!) and there’s plenty of empty space. I realized if I don’t put anything in there I will probably sit around, read blogs, poke around on Facebook, etc. I figured that theres plenty I could get done in this time if I just made a schedule…
So, I’ve added ‘working out’ to a few days each week. I had put this down as a New Year’s resolution and I plan to keep this one (in addition to reading a book a month). The biggest step is making something a habit. Since I go to class every day I decided that once I get home I’ll just go work out. I may have to scold myself (‘No Devin! No email until you get back!’) but I think scheduling the time should help.
I’ve actually signed up for CARGO’s BootCamp and found plenty of routines to get me through the weeks. I didn’t even really know what pilates was until I saw this site. In any case, The ‘camp’ is free once you sign up and it has everything you need to get started. The hardest part is starting!
I think I’ll start reading the ‘food’ section and see what I can do about my diet, too…
Badger Badger Badger
Back in the good ol’ days I had some funny stuff up on my site. I’ve been prompted to bring some of it back because, well, people miss it. So do I. So, to kick off the fun, here’s an oldie (but oh-so-goodie) entitled ‘Badger Badger Badger‘. Happy Almost-Freaking-Monday!
Good and Bad News
Wilson Ng shares a funny joke. Read it before you read the rest of this or I’ll spoil it… yes, I’ll wait… Anyway, the unfunny part about thie joke is I was actually a plane when I heard this announcement. One of our engines failed right after take off, the second while we were out over the Pacific. Since we were flying from New Zealand to Los Angeles and it had only been an hour or so, heading back seemed prudent. Unfortunately for the pilot there was no good way to tell anyone the news. The pilots later let us know that one of the wheels had blown out as well. Later, having put two and two together, it was evident that a tire blew during takeoff and debris flew into the engine. We didn’t hear about that wheel part until much later. In any case, landing in the ‘brace’ position was fun… quietest landing ever.
