Wireless Receiver Mount

Final MountedI pulled a MacGyver tonight as I was faced with a dilemma. I decided I wanted to use my keyboard tray. Unfortunately my wireless MCE keyboard needs line-of-sight to communicate with the receiver. So, I mounted the receiver on the back of the desk with a binder clip, staple, and a twist tie. Go check out the photos, it’s genuis really.

HDE Series: Steve Pavlina

The following is part 2 of my 8 part series on entrepreneurs and their attempts at work-life balance. Previously. I introduced the entrepreneurs.

Steve Pavlina

Steve is a brilliant individual who graduated college in three semesters with two degrees. He took his computer programming skills and started a software development company. Starting a company is certainly impressive but what

Cheney speech spurs new Cold War
A speech by Vice President Dick Cheney strongly critical of the Kremlin marks the start of a new Cold War that could drive Moscow away from its new-found Western allies, the Russian press said on Friday.

Uh, way to go, Dick. Just what we needed, more countries to distrust us.

How do entrepreneurs…

How do entrepreneurs balance work and life?

The following is part 1 of my 8 part series on entrepreneurs and their attempts at work-life balance. I want to thank the following individuals for willingly sharing their experiences (either with me or their website): Chris Pearson, Steve Pavlina, Jeremy Wright, Angie Chang, and Shivani Sopory.

Background

As I sit here in my pajamas I think to myself:

Internet Downtime

I’m torn. Is it fair for Comcast to compensate me a dollar-and-change for a full day’s worth of downed cable access? I spend a lot of time on the internet! It’s my life! I feel that my inability to get online and watch TV was worth waaaaay more than a dollar. But wait, I truly feel that my cable bill is outrageous. So, huh, does the cable market make any sense? Oh well, with no internet I had to actually sit down and write my 10-page paper on entrepreneurship. I’ll be sharing it soon..

Ozone layer shows signs of recovery: scientists
The ozone layer is showing signs of recovering, thanks to a drop in ozone-depleting chemicals, but it is unlikely to stabilize at pre-1980 levels, researchers said on Wednesday.

Unsurprisingly the results came out of Boulder. Yay for Earth, though, right? If it would just quit with those damned ozone-damaging volcanos.

Seeking Hedgehog Feedback

As you may recall, I defined my Hedgehog Concept by determining what I can be the best in the world at. I was able to accomplish this by understanding some of my best qualities. I’ve learned that the easiest and most effective way to define hese positive attributes is to look to others for feedback.

In order to collect the data necessary I sent an email to 20 people. I introduced the concept behind what I was doing and then asked for the following from each person:

Please provide me with three examples of how I add value by completing the following statements…

One of the ways you add value and make important contributions is:

For example, I think of that time that:

In my case, 11 people responded with nearly 30 definite examples of me at my best. I found that the hardest part is then analyzing this data and really determining which traits best describe yourself.

…but it’s just as fun and rewarding to sift through emails reminding you how amazingly great you are.
