Wise Hypothesis

From a wise guy I know (those that share our own beliefs are often viewed as wise):

If you believe the stereotype that “Eastern” minds (Chinese in particular) are better at math than occidental minds, and math is the basis of the technology which moves information, and access to information is the basis for economic power, then the 21st century will see the economic ascension of the Chinese economy, and the setting of the U.S.

Among many other factors, yes, there will be setting.

Do you have a multi-threaded mind?

As I sit here and write this I’m also listening to music and following along with it. I’m sure we all do it, this is no amazing feat. To some people the additional input forces you to focus. For others, it’s distracting. For me, I feel like I can pay attention to what I’m doing and the music simultaneously.

Perhaps this comes with growing up in the multi-tasking generation. But I find myself able to do a few things at the same time and remain focused. For example, I can be singing a song stuck in my head while thinking about the spreadsheet in front of me. If I’m working on something and need to remember a number I can repeat it in my head while still thinking about the task at-hand.

Is this weird? Is this others feel like they have or can do? I wonder if I have some sort of multi-threaded mind. I’m obviously not doing two immediate things at the same instance, but to me two things happening very quickly can be indistinguishable.

Update: A few minutes of more searching and it appears this is how our brains are built. I always knew I could walk and chew gum but can you personally hold two thoughts at the same time in your mind?

Nordstrom got it right

Nordstrom got it right tonight when I brought in a pair of pants to be altered. I had bought the pair across the street at Nordstrom Rack and the guy told me they usually charge for the alteration. No worries! But, once the measurements were taken he said ‘hey, no charge’. So, I walked from Men’s Clothing to Men’s shoes and spent a few bucks.

Viddler + MeToday = iPhone

I didn’t wait in line for an iPhone today. Largely because I’m on a great MyFaves Family Plan at T-Mobile. Oh, and I love my Pearl. But, today I’ve started something I attempted to do back in January: a daily video blog. Why? a) I hate failing and b) my favorite guys at Viddler are having a drawing to win an iPhone. Go get the details here. Watch me every day right here.

Can Entrepreneurship be taught?

The question is straight-forward: can entrepreneurship be taught? Unfortunately the answer is neither black nor white. The problem being entrepreneurship is an area that area that requires some expertise, some experience, and sometimes pure luck. Some argue that entrepreneurs have inherit traits that make them more capable of starting a business, producing a good, or executing a service. On the other hand, Entrepreneur magazine says entrepreneurship can most certainly be taught. In fact, they rank the Top 100 Entrepreneurial Colleges each year demonstrating the academic resources dedicated to teaching entrepreneurship. Can both sides be right?

Obviously entrepreneurship is, and will continue to be, taught. In fact, Jerome Katz from St. Louis University has studied the trend and says that
