Summer Vacation Contest

I have a burning question and I want you all to help me find an answer:

If you could do anything this summer, what would it be and why?

One small caveat, your idea has to take place within 200 miles of your residence and cost under $500. Top 3 Prizes: Your choice of an invite to iminlikewithyou.com, an invite to Joost, or $15 cash.

Update: Winners! My favorite responses were from LorriM (head South and do spur-of-the-moment stuff), Auburn (go camping with my sweetie), and Carmodyarc (go spend a day at Tattered Cover). Thanks to everyone who made over a dozen awesome suggestions! (Special hat tip to ryanarrowsmith. Wink.)

About Devin Reams

My name is Devin Reams and I founded this site to provide a useful news and review resource for Colorado skiers and snowboarders (and mountain enthusiasts). I've been skiing since I was a little kid (we moved out here when I was five years old) and I plan to ski for years beyond that. Although cosnow is not my full-time job it is my full-time winter hobby. I've been an "Epic Local" passholder since 2006 (when it was called a "Colorado Pass" or "Five Mountain Pass"). My favorite resorts are Beaver Creek and Breckenridge.

    How about Las Vegas?

With $500.00 USD you should be able to get a round trip ticket, a room and have some spending money for a show or two and the all you can eat buffet at the Mandalay Bay.

Well jeez, you didn’t mention you were not 21, however Vegas is still fun even being under 21. If you’re at least 18 (and I know you are) there are still a lot of things to do… they have arcades, theme parks with rides, shows and attractions… museums… a ton of things to do… and the Mandalay Bay buffet too :)

I vote for spending vacation money sky-diving and then just camping up near Estes.

Either that or getting a group together to rent a boat on Lake Powell for a week.

A picnic at the zoo. ;-)

The National Zoo in Washington D.C. is awesome. I always love to try and find the kiwi birds in their darkened exhibit and to see the bats flying back and forth and just hangin out. The birdhouse is also super cool because you’re in a HUGE room with all sorts of tropical birds flying all around you, in addition to the ones in cages.

The zoo, often overlooked, is so much fun. And as is the case with most things in D.C., find the nearest subway station to you, drive to that and ride the train in. There’s no reason to drive and park in Northern Va / D.C.
You’ll have a much more enjoyable time just able to wander around and not worry about your car. :)

I forgot to include my why. WHY: because summer vacations are meant to be spent outside. And because everyone needs to jump out of a plane at some point in life. (or get drunk on a house boat, if you pick #2…)

I was going to say skydiving since that’s what I’m doing this summer, but Anon was quicker. Go hiking to a special place. How many can say that they walked to the Googleplex?

Subscribing to these comments. Suppose there will be ideas for me to leech from as well.

I’m a concert goer, so some concerts would be on my list. (I’m going to Warped Tour this summer with some friends, that’s for sure.) I’ve gotta look at Upcoming for some more stuff.

Also, I’d want our band (Phantom Scream) to play as many shows as we could this summer. :)

Ah yes, concerts. I’ve only been to a few in my life. I’m already planning to go see The Bravery in June. Good call, Bryan. :)

It’s a ways off from Colorado, but if you don’t mind a road trip or a cheap flight, come down to Little Rock, Arkansas the last week in May for RiverFest ’07! From Friday the 25th to Sunday the 27th, yo uget a whole weekend of activities. This is one of the very, very few major activities here in Arkansas that keeps me awake during the Summer. Here’s the main site:

Good luck with finding the right one!
