Since I\u2019m not really afraid that anyone I meet at a conference will be carrying a spear, you\u2019d think we could just move past this tradition.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;ve tried pre-empting friends and folks I&#8217;ve met before with a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fist_bump\">fist-bump<\/a> to avoid the germy, awkward palm-to-plam interaction. It&#8217;s less-often received as &#8216;inappropriate&#8217; or a cultural &#8220;faux pas&#8221; and I can&#8217;t help but think <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2008\/06\/04\/AR2008060404521.html\">President Obama<\/a> is mostly to thank for that.
